My Flag Book
Updated: Sep 25
I would like to share the process of making a flag book. By following the steps outlined here, you too can create your own unique flag book.

Supplies:
Two of 6 x 9 inches cardboard papers (book cover)
Two of 6 x 9 inches color papers (inside cover)
Two of 8.5 x 11 inches patterned papers (front cover)
Two of 9 x 8.5 inches color papers
Post-it (3 x 3 inches, two colors)
Glue stick
Cutting mat (Optional)
A bone folder (Optional)

*To ensure the pages inside remain secure, I used thick paper for the book cover. I created a stylish cover by gluing on patterned paper I liked. Personally, I used a “UHU Stic Glue Stick” known for its strong adhesive power which is excellent for bookmaking. It is fine to use a standard glue stick.
Method
1. First, let's create the internal structure of the book.
Fold two sheets of 9 x 8.5-inch paper into eight sections. The 9-inch side is the width, and the 8.5-inch side is the height, make sure to fold along the 8.5-inch side.
*Using a bone folder makes folding the paper easier.
2. You will glue two sheets of paper together. Apply glue to two sections—based on the eight-part division—to join them. This creates a single long strip of paper consisting of 14 sections in total.
-Write the numbers 1 through 14 on the 14 sections of the folded paper as like photo.
-Mark "o" symbols on all odd number, at both edges.
-Mark "x" symbols on all even number, in the middle area.
3. Now it is time to attach the Post-it notes in the other two colors. Just as shown in the photo, attach the light green Post-it notes so they point to the left, and the yellow Post-it notes—which will be placed in the middle—so they point to the right.
-Attach the light green Post-it notes on the "o" symbols (all odd number) at both edges, facing left.
-Then, attach the yellow Post-it notes on the "x" symbols (all even number) in the middle area, facing right.
The interior of the flag book is now complete.
4. Now it is time to make the book cover.
I will decorate the cover by adhering patterned paper to cardboard papers. As shown in the photo, place the patterned paper face down and position the cardboard paper on top of it.
- Fold the corners of the paper into triangles pointing.
- Then, fold in the paper along all four sides.
- Apply glue to secure the corners and the edges of the four sides.
** Using a bone folder makes the gluing process easier.
5. One side of the book cover paper is decorated with patterned paper. The other side is also covered with color paper.
***The book cover might warp or lose its flat shape while the glue dries. To ensure it remained flat, I placed a heavy book on top and waited three hours for the glue to dry.
6. The book cover has dried flat and looks great. I firmly attach the inner pages to the cover paper. My Flag Book is now complete.
What do you think of the flag book I made? Now I need to think about what content to fill it with.
