About
Dawoon Jeong is a jeweler and artist originally from South Korea and currently living in New Paltz, New York. Through the medium of ornaments, Dawoon researches nature and the marine ecosystem. Her recent body of work explores the issues of change affecting living organisms in their environment and how human activities have hindered the sustainability for marine creatures. Dawoon Jeong is completing her MFA(Master of Fine Arts) in the metal program, at the State University of New York(SUNY) at New Paltz and received her BFA(Bachelor of Fine Arts) in Craft & Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University(VCU) in 2019. Jeong served as an assistant of Radical Jewelry Makeover(RJM) project and as a studio assistant for Frankie Slaughter’s solo exhibition, “Self Scene” in 2019. Jeong also worked as an intern for an exhibition/installation position at Quirk Gallery in Richmond, Virginia.
Dawoon Jeong has exhibited her work at the Invitational and Juried exhibits in 2018 for So Fresh and So Clean 5th, Tutto Bianco at Page Bond Gallery, and Tiny Shiny at Quirk Gallery in Richmond. In 2019, she has exhibited in SNAG Student Exhibition in Chicago, the Alchemy5 Enamelist Society Student Exhibition at Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene, Oregon, and VCU Fashion Runway: Shimmer at Main Street Station in Richmond, Virginia. In 2020, she has exhibited in the Alchemy5 13th International Student Enamel Exhibition at Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, and International Enamel Exhibition Under Fire 3 at The Enamel Guild North East website. In 2021, Jeong was accepted into the juried online exhibition, Metal + ?= at Splop Design gallery and has participated in the SUNY New Paltz MFA exhibition, Fragments of A New Reality, at the Fine Art Building Rotunda gallery.
Dawoon Jeong participated in the group online publication 2020 New York Jewelry week(NYCJW): Denizen, Artificial Intelligems and SNAG(Society of North American Goldsmiths) membership catalog, WE ARE SNAG: Anthology 2021. Jeong was granted the State University of New York, New Paltz, Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Scholarship from 2020 to 2022, David '05 and Sara '10 Walton Metal Thesis Support Fund and the Graduate Student Research & Creative Project Award in 2021. Jeong is currently a member of SNAG, a goldsmithing organization.
